Call for Research Posters 2025

The Wisconsin State Music Conference invites you to share your inquiry and research by participating in this year’s research poster session. We view research as an integral aspect of music learning and teaching and welcome all preservice and in-service music teachers to share with our community projects that examine curiosities and demonstrate your professional inquiry. Projects such as 1) reviews of literature, 2) curricular development projects, 3) original empirical studies involving learners in K-12 classrooms, community settings, college campuses, or any other context, and/or 4) structured inquiry into topics that may be of interest to music educators. All proposals will be considered on an equal basis. All authors will receive feedback from a review panel of music education scholars in Wisconsin.

Upon selection, presenters are expected to create and print a physical poster of 36”x36” or 36”x48” dimensions that can stand on a folding easel stand. Posters should include the following information:

  • Title
  • Research Presenter name
  • Purpose – What I wanted to know and why it is important (150 words or less)
  • Methodology – What I did (150 words or less)
  • Findings – What I found, usually organized by theme (300 words or less)
  • Implications
    • Applications to practice – Ways that your can apply what you found in your study that can inform current or future teaching practice (2-3 ideas; 200 words or less)

  • Discussion – Connecting what you learned with what other scholars have found (300 words or less)

  • References: Include all pertinent references in APA citation into a Google Doc named “Your Name” (2025) – Title of Your Project (poster). Ensure it is shared so that “anyone with the link” can “view.” Copy and paste the share URL into a QR code generator (such as https://shorturl.at/NIAR4). Put the QR code on your poster labeled with “References via QR Code”
    • APA: Consider using Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL) APA resources: https://shorturl.at/1lioa
  • Audio description: Record yourself in no longer than 5 minutes. Either upload to Google Drive or YouTube, named “Your Name” (2024) – Title of Your Project (audio). Ensure it is shared so that “anyone with the link” can “view” or, if using Youtube, that is listed as “unlisted” and not set to private. Copy and paste the share URL into a QR code generator. Put the QR code on your poster labeled with “Audio Description.” This is an important step that will make your work more accessible for all participants.
