Technology In Music Education (TI:ME) Pre-Conference

This year’s technology in music education pre-conference offers teachers the opportunity to experience first-hand what is possible when technology is an integral component of a music classroom. Attend four (4) of the sessions chosen specifically for Wisconsin teachers ready to expand their knowledge and understanding of how a technology-rich curriculum can impact student learning and engagement.
This pre-conference is complimentary to all 2026 full conference participants. Cost is included in the registration fee for all participants paying for the full conference.
Sessions Choices and Descriptions
- Crafting a Proper Livestream – Having performances live-streamed can be intimidating, and even more so when you are the one in charge of setting it up. This session will show you all the tools and equipment you need to set up and run a live stream of a performance. Using the same equipment, it can also provide a way to record video directly to a computer with good audio.
- Creativity in Music – Creativity in music is essential for student growth and musicianship. In music, we know the fundamentals and technique are great for learning, but when coupled with creating, students can use these concepts to express and explore their own music, unlocking the curious learner who to wants to learn more.
- Creativity With Modular Synths – This session will demonstrate the creative possibilities of working with modular synthesizers. Using the popular free software platform VCV Rack, attendees will learn how these kinds of synths can make a wide range of music, from conventional to experimental.
- Generative AI Music and the Potential for Student Dialogues – Since the release of Chat GPT in late 2022, generative AI has expanded at a rapid pace with AI music now reaching realistic capabilities. This session will explore the landscape of AI music generation, and how we can use this moment in time to engage more than ever with our students about what it means to create.
- Make Google Work Harder Than Your Students – As busy band, orchestra and choir directors, we need various tech tools that make the gig easier. This session highlights a series of google-based tools that will aid in lesson planning, managing sheet music, student assessment and inventory management. Attendees receive all tools to their drive.
- Music Production Made Simple – Creative Tech for Elementary and Middle School Students – Explore engaging projects such as digital composition, soundtrack creation, beat making, podcasting and songwriting that reinforce musical concepts while encouraging creativity and student voice. Whether you teach general music, beginning ensembles or exploratory music classes, you’ll leave with practical lessons that make music production approachable, meaningful and fun.
- Music Technology On a Dime – This session will focus on unique ways to include technology in any music classroom on a limited budget. Session attendees will learn about low-priced and open-source music hardware and software, cost-effective audio and video recording solutions, pursuing grant money and other practical ideas that incorporate technology into a music curriculum.
